Qeema / Keema is minced meat. 

Matar / Mutter are peas.

Qeema Mattar also known as Keema Mattar,  is a royal delicious Indian curry made with minced meat and peas (optional) that oozes with the aroma and flavours of the Mughal kings Kitchen.

Typically the meat used is minced lamb or beef however, my easier version of the authentic Keema Mutter used chicken as it’s a leaner meat. Using spices from the pantry you can make a meal that can bring compliments on the dinner table. It’s a dish that can help you make many envious of your cooking skills.

Qeema Matar / Keema Mutter Ingredients

 

  • Minced Chicken – Try and use range free, antibiotic-free and hormone -free chicken to the extent possible. Feel free to use other meats like turkey (same time), lamb or beef but the cooking times will vary. 

 

  • Onions- Just regular red onions, Shallots, Yellow onions . Anything lying in the pantry works well . 

  • Tomato Puree, fresh or canned. You can even use tomatoes chopped fine or puréed at home.

  • Oil/Ghee– You can very well use oil . However traditionally the Qeema is made in Ghee or clarified butter.

  • Salt to taste. I have used fine ground sea salt. I like to use a variety of different salts in my everyday cooking. The Sea Salt, Himalayan Pink salt, Kosher salt, Herbed salts.

 

How to make this Easy Keema Mutter / Qeema Matar in the Instant Pot . 

  •  Make the base for the Easy Keema Mutter. Turn on the instant Pot to Sauté mode. Heat Oil/ Ghee , add the cumin seeds, cinnamon stick . Add the chopped onions, in oil along with ginger garlic . Sauté for about a minute. 

 

  •  Next add dry spices. turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and coriander powder. 

 

  •  Now add the salt. Cook for another minute.

 

  •  Follow by adding Minced chicken, and peas .

 

  •  Its now turn to add about a cup of water.

 

  •   Close the Lid of the instant pot . Cancel the Sauté mode and pressure cook by and seal the pressure in. Pressure cook on high for 5 mins .After natural pressure release , open the lid and garnish the keema mutter  serve hot .

Qeema Matar / Keema Mutter Stove Top Instructions

Don’t have an electric pressure cooker like Mealthy or Instant Pot, no worries this Qeema Matar can be made on the stove top in a pot or a pan.

Using a pot or a pan follow the Instant Pot instructions from 1 to 7.

Next, cover the pot or pan with a lid and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat.

Authentic, ridiculously easy and full of flavours Keema Mutter. If Indian cuisine intimidates you then this recipe is a must Try. Its super easy. The recipe uses less number of ingredients than the regular Indian curries. It’s a versatile dish that can be made with Chicken, lamb, and even beef. I have used Chicken as it’s a leaner meat. Easy Keema mutter is also Keto friendly and a Gluten free meal. It Is compliant with Whole 30 meal plan too.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Mince- 1 cup
  • Red Onions  - finely chopped -1cup
  • Tomato Puree-1 cup
  • Oil/ ghee- 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon Stick-1 inch piece
  • Ginger and garlic paste-2 tsp
  • Garam masala-1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder-1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder-1 tsp
  • Salt-1 tsp
  • Water- 1 cup

Instructions

Instant Pot Qeema Matar / Keema Mutter

1.Turn the IP on Sauté mode and heat the ghee/ oil .

2.Add the cumin seeds and cinnamon stick, toast them for about 15 sec.

3.Add the chopped onions , ginger garlic paste and sauté till the onions are transclucent.

4.Throw in garam masala, Kashmiri chilly powder, turmeric, coriander powder. Cook for 30 secs.

5.Next add the tomato puree and cook for a minute.

6.Add the chicken mince, break down the meat with the spatula.

7. Now Add 1 cup of water.

8.Close the Lid of IP and pressure cook on high pressure for 5 mins.

9.Following Natural pressure release (NLP) open the lid

10.Garnish the with cilantro and serve hot with lime wedge .
